IDEOLOGY HANGOVER

even in disappointment
they rally round
their golden calf
remolded into paganini

they hollow it out
and make a mother of it
then a father
or the other
then they bow before its
diseased fingers
marveling at their formalisms
their virtue
their possibilities
for restoring or rather for finally
speaking to the completion
of the social project which seems so natural
to whatever it is which best represents
their bent of being

but i have to wonder
what part of reality's virtuosic resistance
to virtuosity
did they fail to notice
for they certainly seem to notice
every other failure under the sun

and moon
and yet
they push onward
with the project

i think i'll just stand by this pillar
and watch the paint dry

i imagine the paint
as a war between the serfs
and the overlords
but all of them
are made things
some conscious some sleeping
but all of them built of

mechanical chameleons
actors in a primal network
of reverberation

modifying further
some earlier modification

the grotesque is not a project
it is rather
a descriptor
