Jed Pearl

through its green face
pour green pearls
its eyes
and while soft on the inside
like oysters
the hard smooth exterior surfaces
are low slung silent cities
of commerce

motionless waves are preserved
whose walls are mosaics of green pearls
and in that endless expanse of repeating roundnesses
suddenly a green face
soft like dough
its eyes must be magnificent planets
in their early years
black
vibrating
and veined
with molten red stone

gravity make men seed
to oysters the color of jade
jet by in drunken airborne schools
slap up against the cold
iridescent and repeating
gastric stones

an anomaly of digestion
now forms a prison
of incomparable beauty
