Haircuts and Life

I grew up in a beauty shop
ran by my mom.

We had a coke machine
that was the lay down kind,
5 shampoo bowls, and
3 big head plastic dryers.

It smelled.
The women smoked.
My mother did not smoke
because like me
She loved Mac Davis too much.

Mac Davis would sing to us
I don't like Spiders and Snakes
but that ain't what it takes to love me
Uhn Uhnu huunh.

That is the part then when my mother
would brush my teeth for me
until I was twelve
when I got my first haircut.

  1. That picture is what I look like with long hair! Which is why I always remember to get a haircut.
