in the third and interconnecting
layer of pale stone skin /
and in an adjacent later / lower
and darker stone skin
some philosopher of fur
the inky beaver foot elephant
and echidna hums to rum
and finishes turning slowly
under the circle of succulents
the roots running wildly
through the skins of holey stones
and its bells hang like gourds
under the ground passing
their clappers between / this /
the roots and the holes
where the philosopher
digs the fur /for /
and the fur is all roots
and bags of roots
roots bagged in holey stone
but flattened and layered
and shifting so that the dirt
is moving and sifting down
sprinkling itself into the game
/and it came that way/
from the top to the bottom
from the first layer
to the second layer
where one hole / grotain /
connects to a different hole
and all the holes line up
roughly / shiftily /
until they make a tunnel
a furry egg which digs
into itself
